Ninety seven anglers attended which was the largest turn out for
an angling match on the River Hull in Beverley for many years. Every
tackle shop and quite a few local firms gave prizes and money towards the
event. It turned out to be a fantastic day. After 11 months of organising
and lots of sleepless nights, we achieved much more than we ever expected
- we - meaning my wife and I.
I expected to raise in the region of £1,000 to £1,300 so
you can imagine how we all felt when the total will be over £4,000.
Mrs King and Mrs Smith attended the presentation, which they both enjoyed
immensely. The cheques are still coming in, I hope they never stop! Two
records were broken that day, the first was over the fishing - the heaviest
weight in a five hour match was broken on the River Hull. The second was
the amount raised for charity by an angling match. Some people call anglers
for many different reasons, but that day they gave their time and money
for charity all 97 of them.
Editor's Note: Thank you Gillian and Sonny for this magnificent
achievement. We are also very grateful to you for all the articles, which
have been published raising awareness for MG. Well done Elaine and the
York Branch.
