Since I last wrote to you I have started my new job at the Frenchay hospital in Bristol and I am beginning to settle in. I have a very calming lilac office in which to sit and plan lots of exciting researchprojects trying to understand what causes and what will cure myasthenia.
The main project will only involve newly diagnosed patients in the first instance because steroids tend to complicate an already very complex picture and I want to increase our chances of success as much as possible. However for those of you with established disease I am also planning another study based in the South West that will examine many aspects of the disease including the effect it has on your quality of life.
Moving away from research towards more practical medicine, the myasthenia/muscle clinic is now up and running at the Frenchay hospital and will hopefully become a valuable resource for people suffering from muscle disease in the Bristol area.
Finally, a big thank you to all of you that wrote after my last letter in the MGA news. It is nice to hear that so many of you are keen to take part in research projects.
