MGA continues to receive enquiries regarding this product. MGA does not, and cannot, endorse any particular product or any particular manufacturer. However, the following information may be useful to our readers.

Two versions of these tablets are currently being imported:- either ‘Mestinon Retard’ - from Europe by Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (formerly, ICN Pharmaceuticals Ltd), or ‘Timespan’ - from the USA via IDIS; both are quite expensive and are only prescribed on a ‘named patient’ basis. They provide similar blood levels, but their absorption can vary between individual patients.

These products can have both advantages and drawbacks. Since there are no published studies and very little experience of their use in the UK, we regret that the MGA is not qualified to give specific information.

It is essential that patients ask their Consultant’s advice based on their own particular circumstances.
