Her speech is improving, at four she could only say a few basic words, now with therapy at school twice a week she is talking clearer and in sentences. She continues with physio, cannot yet hop or jump off anything but can now make herself go high on her swing and slowly pedal her bike.
At the MGA Tank Pull, I spoke to Preston Keeling, who said that whilst we couldn't do door to door collections without a permit, etc. collecting sponsors would be OK. So leaving with a huge pile of about 300 of your leaflets, I set to work on organising a sponsored bike ride.

I am the Treasurer of the local Mother and Toddler Group which also needed funds so at the group I told of my idea to have a sponsored ride splitting the amount raised 50/50. This was thought a great idea and a list of riders was soon made. A date set of 2nd May and the local paper contacted.
The other riders asked family and friends for sponsorship. This I also did but then armed with your leaflets, I went door to door. A few people had heard of MG before, a nurse who is currently caring for somebody with it and another lady who had a friend in hospital with it at that time. Those people who had never heard of it asked me what it was and as you can tell from this letter once I start I don't stop so they do know now!
On 2nd May we all rode the 12.5 miles, not too far to ride but far enough for those who hadn't been on a bike for years. The weather was dry with little wind and we all had a buffet lunch at the home of the group Chairperson, Nicky Sellors, before starting the much harder job of collection of pledges.
Twelve sponsor forms were going around. One belonged to a couple who rode their tandem and another belonged to Nicky's son Ben who at 7 years old said he found the ride easy and took great delight in finishing before his mum.
All monies were collected. I, with the help of my husband, Martin collected £517.00 and the total altogether from the other eleven forms was £828.62 making a total of £1,345.62. This amount was far higher than our group ever expected and therefore rather than split it 50/50 it was decided that the group would keep only £145.62 so the children could have a trip out this summer. £1,200 would be sent to yourselves.
I work part-time at J. Sainsbury and I wrote to Head Office asking whether they would be able to help us in anyway. They do have a charity fund, where they sometimes make donations to charities supported by their staff. They sent a cheque for £200. The local paper was again contacted and last week they included a write-up and photograph of some of the people who rode.
Sorry about such a long letter, but I am feeling rather pleased in being able to send you cheques totaling £1,400.
